Hades 2‘s newly added ending is drawing some pushback from vocal parts of the community, with fan criticism being aimed at both its concept and execution. The complaints contrast with the game’s otherwise strong launch, driven by solid Hades 2 sales momentum.

The sequel to Supergiant Games’ hit 2020 roguelike has been in early access since May 2024. However, its true ending has only been added with the Hades 2 1.0 release on September 25.

Why Some Players Are Complaining About Hades 2 Ending

Three days later, some fans who have been playing since early access have already managed to unlock Hades 2‘s true ending, though a vocal portion of them isn’t satisfied with how things have wrapped up. One such complaint comes from Reddit user Shonkshonkshonk, who authored an elaborate essay (spotted by TheGamer) arguing that the game ends on an incredibly anticlimactic note, largely because Chronos’s redemption arc happens so fast that it can hardly be called an arc in the first place.

In a separate post, Reddit user Smokeysteak1150 shared that they were “offended” by the Hades 2 ending, saying they cannot comprehend why a Greek god would care about seeing himself as a grandfather, which is presented as the catalyst for his near-instant redemption. Similar complaints were echoed by Reddit user Lilwizerd, who expressed disappointment with the fact that the true ending of Hades 2 concludes the story by having Melinoë decide to spare Chronos after “a 3-minute conversation,” calling the whole idea deeply unsatisfying.

A few dozen similar complaints have emerged online over the final weekend of September 2025. Some of them also criticize the explanation for the post-game loop, calling it nonsensical. Since Hades 2 is already estimated to have sold 2 million copies on Steam alone, these grievances appear to come from a vocal minority of people. On the other hand, only a minority of the game’s player base has seen the true ending as of September 28, at least on PC, where Steam states that just 0.1% of people who have started Hades 2 have unlocked the Golden Age achievement, awarded for reaching its epilogue.

Hades 2 Unlikely To Receive More Story Content

The original Hades received no major content drops after it left early acces in September 2020, with all of its subsequent patches being focused on bug fixes and various balancing changes. With its successor now out of early access, a similar level of support is expected, making significant story changes that could reframe the game’s events or address ongoing fan complaints unlikely.
